Clever Marriage Photographer

Paul Gero came up as a photojournalist, covering subjects from Michael Jordan to presidents of the United States. I found the way he related old school newspaper assignments to the wedding industry to be very insightful. He talks about finding meaning in the mundane moments and I know for me, this can sometimes be a struggle to do. When everyone is sitting around and not much is going on, it can be hard to find a good image to take.

Gero also talks a bit about the gear he uses and how that plays into his wedding days. One thing on this topic he talks about is having focal length backups. While hiking the day before a wedding with his camera and 35mm lens, he realized that if he fell and broke that lens that he would be screwed. Like me, the 35mm lens is his bread and butter lens. And while I always go into a wedding day with backup lenses and camera bodies, I don't necessarily have a backup for each focal length of a lens. So this got me thinking that it may be a good idea to have a backup for certain focal lengths. Especially since I shoot a very large amount of a wedding day at 35mm. - Jason Vinson
