Kvålehytta - "Kvale Hytte Cottage" in Conover Commons, Seattle, USA

PS! In my enthusiasm I forgot that Kvale too is a common family name, then it's not my relatives that lived here. I just thought about Kvåle, as you don't have Å in English language. So the name would then maybe be written Kvaale? Anyway, until I get this clarified I let the post stay. If it turns out to be Kvale and not Kvaale (Kvåle), I'll delete the post.

PSII! It turns out that it's not known that anybody left the Kvåle farm in Sogndal for the USA. But as several families in the region took Kvåle as a family name just for the glory, although not being related to the farm, they might be from the area. At Google I can too find other farms named Kvåle, like in Telemark county. Kvale and Kvåle probably have the same linguistic roots, so I anyway decided to let the post stay. Though it is most unlikely it was my relatives that built the Kvale Hytte.

The cottage is though a good example on the extraordinary quality of Ross Chapin's cottages!

************

It was a great joy today finding a cottage in my favorite pocket neighborhood, Conover Commons in Seattle, USA, carrying the family name of my grandmother from Sogndal, in the Sogn & Fjordane county. My grandmother, Gjertrud Kvåle, grew up at Kvåle Farm, a fruit farm, together with twelve sisters and two brothers. Actually I was once offered to run this farm, and deeply regret that I didn't do so.

Kvåle Hytte is a very good name for a pocket neighborhood cottage, or "tunfellesskap", or "klyngetun", which are Norwegian names for this phenomenon. Because Western Norway was the center for the Norwegian "klyngetun"-tradition. Actually people in this part of Norway used to live in small pocket neighborhoods, or "klyngetun", for centuries, which were smaller than villages.

- The Ancient Norwegian "Klyngetun"

Eva Røyrane is currently working on a magnificent book about the Norwegian "klyngetun"-tradition, which the author John Michael Greer is eager to publish in the USA. I think this will become a bestseller and start a revolution for "tunfellesskapet", both in Norway and the USA. Then Ross Chapin's guidance and work will become of incredible value.

Sorry I didn't see this cottage was for sale, as I would have contacted the owner promptly to hear if she/he should like some of her/his Kvåle-relatives in Norway to live in her/his Kvåle Cottage. I'm serious, I adore Conover Commons and would have left everything to live in this Kvåle Cottage without hesitating.

Kvålehytta in Conover Commons, Seattle, USA. Built by one of my relatives in the USA. How I wish I was sitting on that balcony with my girls 💔

"This home is named 'Kvale hytte', honoring the owner's Norwegian heritage."
